The nerve breaking novel I will be writing about is very intense. In the story a man named Tom Robinson, is being convicted for a crime he never committed. Tom Robinson is like a mocking bird because it is a sin to kill something that is innocent. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, the racism shows that even an angel can be prosecuted over skin color. They forget he was trying to help a white woman because he is black.  Atticus tried to help tom Robinson but ones they saw he was black the case had no chance. He was a dead man.

Tom Robinson is a good person who was hurt and blamed unnecessarily by a white man called Bob Ewell. Tom Robinson is a good person who felt sorry for white women called Mayella Ewell who would later be responsible for his death. Tom Robinson was being blamed for raping a Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson was an innocent man who was helping a Mayella Ewell white woman with heavy duty chores for free. Tom Robinson is like a mockingbird because he didn’t do any harm but well to the people. He was blamed for something he didn’t do and killed because of his skin color. It is a sin to kill an innocent man as it is to kill a mocking bird. Tom Robinson was killed very unfair. On chapter 10 Atticus says “Remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (Lee pg 90). This shows why racism was involved in this trial and even though he was doing a good deed he got killed.

Boo Radley and Tom Robinson are kind of isolated from the people in a way. They are also the blame for everyone. Tom Robinson in this case was blamed for rape because he is black. On chapter 25 they say an important quote ‘’Atticus had used every tool available to free men to save tom Robinson, but in the secret courts of men’s hearts Atticus had no case. Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed’’ (lee pg 244). This quote shows that tom Robinson had no chance in court because he was black even though he was innocent. Atticus used every trick in the book but failed to succeed. Mayella Ewell showed her face and Atticus pointed out that her left side of her face was beaten. Tom Robinson couldn’t have done it because his left hand got caught in a cotton machine when he was small. But Mayellas husband in the other hand does everything with his right hand. The judge didn’t care. It was the word of a white man vs. a black man and the white man will always win.

Tom Robinson is compared to a mocking bird because of what they did to him. Tom Robinson was wrongfully convicted.  Tom Robinson is like a mocking bird because it is bad to do kill an innocent creature. On chapter 10 a very important quote is mentioned. ‘’mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up peoples gardens, don’t nest corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird’’. (Lee pg 90). This quote helps you understand the relationship between a mockingbird and tom Robinson. Tom Robinson wasn’t doing any harm; on the other hand he was being very helpful and caring. A mocking bird does nothing but give us harmony and happiness.

Atticus also gave a good quote to use as an example. On chapter 3 he said ‘’you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view and until you climb into his skin and walk around it’’ (lee pg 30).  This quote is referring to Tom Robinson’s skin color. Many white people find it easy to blame a black man of a crime they never committed. But those people do not know how it feels to be blamed for something you never did, especially if you did a good deed and you are getting blamed for crime. If you were to climb into Tom Robinson’s skin you would feel helpless. You would feel helpless because your word or evidence doesn’t prove if you are guilty or not. Your skin color decides it.

This story was sad and intense because of the problem. It was very unfair that Tom Robinson got killed for a crime he did not commit. Yet again racism played its go ones again in a case against a white person.
